MY Women Who Rock

Shelley did a passage on women she thinks rocks and I loved the idea so I stole it. Below is a list of singers/actresses I think rock. I think a lot of other women in other professions rock but I narrowed it down or I would be here until the end of 2006. So here is my list with the reasons why and some include photos.

Ashanti
Ashanti is the perfect picture of perseverance. I admire her for being able to pick herself up after hard times. She has struggled to get where she is (though most don't know that) and now her hard work has paid off. She is beautiful, talented and an-all-around sweetheart. She supports many charities and organizations for children. She also works heavily for the AIDS foundation. Did you catch her giving out Christmas toys on television the other day? I love her music and though she may not be the best at what she does, she's definitely got talent.

Angela Bassett
She is one of my favorite actresses. It's a joy to see her in a role because I never know what to expect. She keeps me guessing and for that I will always follow her work.

Jennifer Lopez
La Lopez is the " Queen of Latin Soul ". I love her music and though I do not watch her movies I am probably one of the biggest Jennifer fans you'll find. She is a very sweet and giving person though the public has a different view of her. You should see the beautiful autograph photo she sent me!

Mary J. Blige
Can't say enough about this woman except that she's been the queen of R&B and soul for over a decade. Mary has reigned for over twelve years proving that she has what it takes. She's the ultimate diva people love to imitate and love to hate simply because she does something many singers can't: she takes control.

Reese Witherspoon
I have been a fan of Reese's since she was a little girl! I knew Reese when no one else knew Reese. Fear happens to be one of my favorite movies. I can't tell you how beautiful it is to see that this woman has grown up into a superb actress right before my eyes. I wish Reese success for years to come. It's a joy to see her on screen.

Mo'Nique
I love Mo'Nique for being a positive image. I didn't like how they had her running after Dorian Wilson on The Parkers though. She is too beautiful to degrade herself by playing a character that runs after a man. I appreciate Mo'Nique for showing the world that big women are here to stay and that it doesn’t matter what society thinks. Big women got it going on. If you don't believe that just ask Mo'Nique how much money she's made in Hollywood. Believe me it now pays to be big.

Janet Jackson
She is one tough cookie. We all know Janet is talented but what I love the most about her is her staying power. She has suffered very hard times (being a Jackson is tough!) and though people try to keep her down she always gets up swinging! She was beautiful when she started out and she's beautiful now. I remember her from television as Penny and as Willis' girlfriend on " Different Strokes ". She is another phenomenal woman who I hold dear to my heart.

Nia Long
I've known Nia since she was on Guiding Light. She is another actress that has grown up before my eyes. It's a treasure to see her on films. I just wish she would make better choices sometimes. She is too good for some of the B-movie films she appears in. Did you see her in Alfie with Jude Law? She was to die for. She's a stylish little woman with a lot of grace and class. She's a pleasure the world should appreciate.

Juliette Lewis
One of my favorites, man! She has been acting since childhood. Some may not know her by name but you would definitely know her face. She's an actress that gives her all to any role. I mean she gets down! No woman rocked the way Juliette did in Natural Born Killers. She was so sexy and tough. I don't think anyone else could have played Mallory Knox as realistic as she did. And did you see her singing in Strange Days? Wasn't she a knockout? She is extremely sexy and sings rock like nobody's business! I love me some Juliette Lewis!

Regina King
I first saw Regina on 227 as Brenda back in the 80's. I didn't pay her too much attention until I saw her in Boyz in the Hood. She blew me away because that character was so different from Brenda. I knew then that Regina had it going on. She is one of my favorite actresses. I was so proud that she finally got notoriety by appearing in the films, Jerry Maguire and Ray. It's about time the world took notice.

Cyndi Lauper
(The woman I think Gwen Stefani tries to imitate). Don't get me wrong, I like Gwen but she got some of her style from Cyndi. We can't deny that right? What can I say? Cyndi embodied the 80's. Talk about versatile style, grace and talent. Cyndi has it all and continues to be a legend for rockers everywhere. I believe she's also a feminist. No wonder I love this woman! I love a lot of Cyndi's songs but my favorites are, " She-Bop " and " Goonies R' Good Enough. " When I put a Cyndi CD on I go wild! If Cyndi doesn't rock, I don't know who does! She's so unique she even spells her name, " Cyndi " backwards!

Last but not least…MADONNA. No explanation needed.

I'll cut the list off here. I had some more but I think I've made my point, LOL! These women rock (in my book). I have tons of others but I'll keep them to myself. It's refreshing to appreciate other women for their accomplishments and challenges. If we can't celebrate others, how can we celebrate ourselves?

Bye for now,
Bootsy

I like your list Stacy! Funny. I agree with most. The only one I might not 100% agree with is Juliette Lewis. NOT that she's not a kick-a** actress, but when I think of women who rock, she just doesn't pop up in my mind. Eh, to each her own!

Happy New Year to you! Hope 2006 is even better than 2005!
